YPA Awards
Some final comments about YPA in NYC. During the spring and summer of 2014, Toronto photographer Nation Wong and myself mentored four Toronto photography students for the YPA (Young Photographer's Alliance) in association with ASMP. The students were instructed to each produce a small portfolio of images examining the concept of Boundaries and were "competing" against students from across the United States and Britain. Nation and myself really pushed the students to look beyond the usual cliches associated with boundaries and produce work that challenged typical representations. Needless to say, we were delighted that Team Toronto was selected as the winning team by the YPA panel of judges!!!
Congratulations to Julia Samson (York University), Katie Doyle (Sheridan College), Geo Romolo (Ryerson University) and Takumi Furuichi (Humber College) for being selected from amongst many capable students as the judges favourites.
You all worked really hard and produced beautiful work!
Each winning student received generous gifts from ASMP, Shutterstock and Phase One. The added publicity in New York during the awards gala last week was also a great perk!!!
Thank you to Deborah Free at the YPA for encouraging Team Toronto to become involved with this mentoring program. Your enthusiasm for this program is infectious!!
Many thanks to the prestigious Art Director's Club in NY for hosting and providing the perfect venue for the awards gala last Tuesday evening.
The Toronto Team also hosted a small showing of work at S1 Group last September and I would like to take a moment to thank Craig Samuel and Branco Borcic of S1 Group for hosting this event and taking care of all the details and our last minute (and annoying) requests. They handled all of our requests with courtesy and professionalism!!! Way to go Craig and Branco!!
The Canucks kicked ass in NY! Go Canada!!!
Cheers!
